Position Summary
North Side Community School is seeking an Elementary School Principal to lead Grades 1–5. If you are an experienced educator with a passion for helping children succeed, we want to meet you!
The Principal is the educational and culture leader of the school, responsible for maintaining a positive, safe, and high-expectations learning environment. This role includes supervising faculty, staff, and students, and managing resources aligned with North Side’s mission. The Principal will model effective leadership, support instructional and support staff, and guide school-wide professional learning communities.
You will create a school culture where each student is treated as an individual, every family is a valued partner, and every staff member is a respected colleague.
Essential Functions
Student Achievement & Instructional Leadership

Lead and oversee the school’s instructional program

Implement a restorative, learning-centered behavior management plan

Analyze academic data regularly with teams to improve scholar performance

Ensure all students demonstrate strong academic growth and meet school performance goals

Design systems for assessments and the use of results to improve instruction

Promote instructional consistency and high-quality teaching in every classroom
Staff Development & Evaluation

Partner with the Curriculum and Instruction Team to plan effective professional development

Oversee systems for supervision, coaching, and evaluation of school staff

Assist with recruiting and selecting high-quality staff aligned with the school’s mission
Parent & Community Partnership

Cultivate strong relationships with parents and the broader community

Ensure timely, respectful, and consistent communication with families

Create opportunities and systems for active parent and community involvement
Leadership & Management

Establish and maintain a positive school culture

Ensure efficient, smooth, and budget-conscious school operations

Prepare and present reports on student and school progress

Provide timely updates to the Executive Director on key performance areas including academic results, staff morale, enrollment, attendance, assessments, HR matters, and technology
Skills & Characteristics

At least three years of successful teaching and leadership experience in an urban or alternative school

A track record of dramatically improving student achievement

Master’s degree in education preferred (or comparable experience)

Experience with teacher coaching and evaluation

Highly collaborative, results-oriented, adaptable, and a proactive problem solver

Strong data-informed instructional planner

Confident in analyzing student performance and improving instructional practices

Familiarity with standards-based, backwards planning

Experience in dynamic, entrepreneurial school environments

Desire for rigorous, ongoing professional development focused on instructional effectiveness

Positive, passionate, articulate, and empowering presence for students and staff

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Proficient with technology including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and Google Docs
Education & Certification

Current Missouri Certification for School Leadership

Master’s degree in education preferred

Three years of school administration experience preferred
