
Position Summary
North Side Community School is seeking a compassionate and mission-driven School Counselor to
support the behavioral, emotional, and social development of our students in grades PreK–8. As a key
member of our Student Support Team, the Counselor leads implementation of schoolwide restorative
practices and the SEL curriculum, while providing individual and group counseling, developing behavior
interventions, and partnering with staff and families to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive school
culture.

Key Responsibilities
Restorative Practices and SEL Leadership
• Lead the development, training, and implementation of the schoolwide Restorative Justice Program.
• Ensure alignment of restorative practices across classrooms and campuses.
• Oversee implementation of the school’s SEL curriculum (Character Strong), including staff training
and coaching.
• Support integration of SEL and restorative practices into daily routines and culture.
Counseling and Student Support
• Provide individual and group counseling to students.
• Facilitate social-emotional learning groups targeting specific needs (e.g., grief, anxiety, peer
relationships).
• Partner with teachers to support students’ emotional regulation and classroom behavior.
Behavioral Intervention
• Conduct behavioral assessments and develop targeted intervention plans.
• Monitor student progress and adjust plans based on ongoing data and team input.
• Collaborate with school psychologist, social worker, and Director of Student Support Services to
coordinate services.
Crisis Response and De-escalation
• Support students in moments of emotional or behavioral crisis.
• Participate in coordinated crisis response planning and post-crisis reflection.
Family Engagement
• Communicate regularly with families to share strategies, progress, and offer support.
• Help caregivers reinforce behavior and SEL goals at home.
Data and Documentation
• Maintain timely, confidential records on counseling, interventions, and student progress.
• Track and analyze trends to inform programming.
Staff Collaboration and Training
• Serve as a thought partner to teachers and administrators on behavior and SEL.
• Provide professional development and classroom coaching in trauma-informed and restorative
practices.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or a related field
• LPC, LCSW, or another relevant licensure preferred
• Experience in urban education settings
• Training in restorative justice and trauma-informed practices
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
